James Storm Carew
James Storm Carew is a 4x Kitesurfing World champion and Big wave charger. Coming from Australia he has been surrounded by heavy ocean conditions since a child and loves anything that the ocean can throw at him. Although still on the kitesurfing world tour, after winning multiple world titles in Kitesurfing James decided to change directions and move into Big wave surfing and fell in love with nazare. Now aiming to become one of the hardest chargers in the big wave world, he has shifted focus into Nazare and put his competitive athlete mindset into his big wave surfing. James is someone who loves to be pushed outside his regular zone and is determined to find his highest potential inside the ocean. That feeling of fear that we all know too well is welcomed into James’ life as he finds its the only place where you can truly see who you are and what you are capable of. There is a select few moments in this life where it becomes impossible to control ourselves and these are the moments that James looks to perform in.
What do you hope to achieve?
My goal is simple, stay true to myself and push myself as far into those moments of fear as I can. I believe that to become one of the best you must find those levels of comfort and constantly push those levels until you break through them or create new levels. That’s the plan.
Why do you need heavy water?
Situations that require 100% of your own self and moments that truly test your resolve are what make this life so special, being able to live these moments and come away better is indescribable. We as a team and I myself believe these are the moments that make life special. Heavy water is the ultimate test.
